Diagnostics of malfunctions of a starter without its removal from the car

Before starting diagnostics of a starter make sure that the battery is completely charged.

If the starter does not join in general, make sure that the lever of the selector is established in the correct situation ("R" or «N») (AT), or the pedal of coupling (RT) is squeezed out.

Make sure that the battery is charged, and plugs and tips of all wires (on the battery and the traction relay) are not damaged by corrosion and reliably fixed.

If the starter rotates, but does not scroll the engine, it speaks about pro-slipping of the obgonny coupling in a starter and need of replacement of the last.

If after inclusion the starter does not start to rotate, but the click published at switching of the traction relay is clearly audible, the problem is covered in malfunction of the battery, violation of contacts or failure of the starter (if the engine certainly is not jammed).

If the plunzher of the traction relay does not click, being switched at starter inclusion, either the battery is faulty, or the fusible insert (a gap in a chain) fused, or defect of the relay takes place.

 PERFORMANCE ORDER

  1. For check of serviceability of the relay connect a wire from a set for car start from an auxiliary source between positive (+) the plug of the battery and the small plug of a wire of the lock of ignition on the relay. If now the starter joins, the relay in an order and a problem in malfunction of the lock of ignition, the switch of permission of start, the start or electroconducting relay.
  2. Find the start relay in power supply distribution center. Take out the relay and make its check (Check of pressure of fuel and functioning of the fuel pump of Head of the Power supply system and production of the fulfilled gases (see also illustrations "Is absolutely similar to check of the ASD relay and the fuel pump in the Section measure resistance between plugs 86 and 85..." and "Also measure resistance between plugs 30 and 87А..." in Head of the Power supply system and production of the fulfilled gases).

  1. If the starter on the former does not rotate, remove it together with the relay for carrying out dismantling, detailed diagnostics and repair/replacement.
  2. If the starter turns the engine too slowly, first of all check level of a charge of the battery and a condition and reliability of fastening of all terminal connections. Partial jamming of the engine or filling by its oil of too high degree of viscosity also can be at the bottom of its slow provorachivaniye a starter.
  3. Start the engine and let's to it get warm to normal working temperature, then disconnect a coil wire from a cover of the distributor and earth it on mass of the engine.
  4. Connect a positive wire of the voltmeter to the positive plug of the battery, and negative - to negative.
  5. Turn the engine and consider voltmeter indications. Do not include a starter continuously more than for 15 seconds. The indication of over 9 In at a starter rotating with normal speed is considered norm. If instrument reading is higher 9 In, but speed of a provorachivaniye is insufficient, it is necessary to check a condition of contacts of the traction relay or electric sockets of a contour. If tension below 9 is fixed In and speed of rotation is insufficient, the starter most likely is faulty.
