Major maintenance of a transfer case - the general information

Major maintenance of a transfer case is procedure difficult for independent performance. She assumes carrying out dismantling and the correct return assembly of a set of small knots and components. It is necessary to measure precisely a set of gaps and it is correct to modify them, having picked up the corresponding size adjusting washers and lock rings. Thus, if there is a need for carrying out major maintenance of a transfer case, its removal and installation can are executed by strengths of the amateur mechanic whereas actually repair and restoration should be left to specialists of car-care center. There is a possibility of acquisition of the restored boxes - consult at specialists of dealer office. In any case, expenses of time and funds for repair and restoration of an old box will appear quite commensurable with costs of acquisition of the restored block.

Nevertheless, it is necessary to tell that performance of major maintenance of a transfer case by forces even the inexperienced amateur mechanic quite probably under condition of existence of the corresponding special tool and an accurate and careful approach to performance of each of procedures when any of even the most insignificant steps is not passed.

The number of the tools necessary for performance of major maintenance of a transfer case includes flat-nose pliers for removal and installation both internal, and external lock rings, a stripper of bearings, a hammer with sliding brisk, a set of drifts, the tsiferblatny indicator of plunzherny type and, probably, a hydraulic press. Besides, existence strong, convenient height of the workbench equipped with a vice, or the stand for carrying out dismantle of transmissions is absolutely necessary.

During dismantling of a transfer case pay fixed attention to ways of installation of each of the smallest components, its situation in relation to other details and fixture type (do on a course of dismantling of a note).
