Removal and installation of the water pump

Before starting performance of procedure wait complete cooling of the engine.

Removal

PERFORMANCE ORDER

Disconnect a negative wire from the battery.
Empty cooling system (Head of Control and routine maintenance). If the cooler still fresh or is in a satisfactory condition, keep it for further use.
Remove the fan of system of cooling with a casing (The section Check of serviceability and replacement of the fan of system of cooling and the coupling of its coupling).
Remove driving belts (Head of Control and routine maintenance) and a pulley of the water pump.
Weaken collars and disconnect hoses from the water pump. If hoses "became attached", grasp serially each of them closer to the end try повращать it on the union, in case of release remove a hose from the union. Try not to damage unions. If hoses are damaged or there was an aging of their material, cut off them from unions and at assembly replace new.
On 6-cylinder engines remove a tension roller and the pump of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel, do not disconnect from the last hoses and establish it aside, a bottom down that hydraulic liquid did not follow.

On 6-cylinder engines in volume of 4.0 l the pump of system of hydrostrengthening of a wheel can be removed assembled by an arm - an arm on the water pump.

Give bolts and remove the water pump from the engine. Remember an arrangement of bolts of various length and type - at assembly they should be established on former places. On the models equipped with V8 engines reach flat-nose pliers and weaken a collar of a perepuskny hose over the water pump.

Details of assembly of the water pump - the 6-cylinder engine (pay attention to location of short and long fixture and do not forget to transfer on the new pump the union of a heating hose).

Having reached flat-nose pliers, disconnect perepuskny a hose behind the water pump - the V8 engine.

Installation

Clean carvings of bolts and boltovy openings in the engine block, having removed from them traces of corrosion and old hermetic.
Compare the new pump with old, having made sure of identity of their designs. On models with 6-cylinder engines remove with old наоса the union of a heating hose and transfer it on new, having greased a carving part with hermetic. If the old pump is established on the engine, check the back party of shovels of a rotor on existence of traces of corrosion. If any of shovels it is lost or strongly corroded corrosion, replace the pump.

On 6-cylinder engines in volume of 4.0 l from 1993 to 1995 вып. The water pump of reversive type (with return rotation) is established. The rotor of such pumps is usually marked with "R" letter. Check the new pump on marking existence in order to avoid installation on the pump engine not that type that will inevitably lead to an engine overheat.

The replaceable water pump of the 6-cylinder engine should be reversive type - make sure available labels in the form of «R» letter on a pump rotor.

Scratch out all traces of a material of old laying from a surface of the engine interfaced to the pump.
Wipe interfaced surfaces of the engine and the new water pump the pure rags moistened in acetone.
Grease the surface of new laying turned to the engine with a thin layer of RTV hermetic.
Grease a surface of the new pump interfaced to laying with a thin layer of RTV hermetic, then carefully put laying to the pump. Pass pair of bolts through fixing openings of the pump and accurately put on them laying.

At replacement of the water pump track correctness of installation of various length of bolts.

Carefully put the pump with laying to the engine and screw bolts in openings, having tightened from by hand.
Establish the remained bolts (if they also are used for fastening of arms of any accessories, do not forget to establish these arms at this stage). Gradually (on 1/4 turns for one approach) tighten bolts with demanded effort.
Establish on the places all acting in film for ensuring access to the pump knots and details. Track correctness of laying of a tape driving belt when clothing it on pulleys (Head of Control and routine maintenance) in order to avoid an engine overheat as a result of pump rotation in the opposite direction.
Fill system of cooling and check correctness of a tension of a driving belt (Head of Control and routine maintenance). Start the engine and make sure of absence of leaks.
